Office 2008 warning... It's missing a lot. |
|
Hey there,
Office 2008 is *NOT* Office 2007 for the Mac.
If you need Solver or a lot of the analytical stuff, it's gone. There are some new functions that you can use to do a few of the missing analytics.
You can't import data from a website either as far as I can find.
So, if you're trying to decide whether or not to jump on it, keep that in mind.
Otherwise, it's still a billion times better than iWork. It sucks that we're relegated to dealing with subpar software just because we want a computer that uses a decent operating system.

2. I'm going to end up using VMWare. |

Office does what I need it to, and 2007 is actually very nice.
Now if only Apple would release a new model of the Mini. I could upgrade and do everything with one computer.

I use the sucker for text layout (Yes I know it was not meant to do that), and it does an amazing job at that

4. The import data from the web features are insane. |
|
If you're building spreadsheets to model different stock trading strategies, it doesn't get much better than Excel 2007. There is better, but you have to spend bucks and then all that the better software gets you is a better front end because it still generates Excel spreadsheets.

5. Which version did you get? |
|
I think you have to buy the big fancy version to get the solver and other features.

6. Doesn't matter which version. |

VB is toast in Office 2008.
But I got Office 2008 for Mac. Which is their middle level version. There's Student/Teacher version and then the Special Media Edition which added some media utility for managing pictures, etc.
I got it for free, so I didn't lose any money in the process, but I know there are people that were hoping 2008 would add stuff that 2004 didn't have. And in Solver/VB/Web Data, it didn't.
