They're still not finished with the MobileMe migration

I couldn't get to my mail all day yesterday.... and their fancy new apps still aren't online as of about noon today.

1. This whole thing's been a monumental cock-up starting from Monday morning.

Don't *even* get me started about the UK iPhone upgrade fiasco :D

Software compatibility problems marred the launch of the iPhone 3G at Apple's flagship store in London, where customers had difficulty activating their new phones.

Apple has an exclusive deal with network operator O2 in the UK - but O2's web-based activation system requires the use of Microsoft's Internet Explorer browser to register a new phone: It won't work with the Safari browser bundled in Apple's Mac OS X.

2. I think Apple's really screwed the pooch this week

It should have been a good week for them, press-wise, with the iPhone 3G launch. But with the inadequate supplies of phones, problems with activation, problems with the 2.0 firmware update (which could even leave people with bricked units), and the MobileMe outage, there will be a hell of a lot of unhappy customers and negative headlines.

4. An inert or non-functional device

The verb "to brick": to turn inadvertently transform your expensive piece of electronics into a paperweight. Apparently, if you try to upgrade your iPhone to 2.0, but it's unable to complete the process because the iTunes servers are overloaded, it can be left in an unusable state.

7. Steve is gonna fire somebody. Maybe a lot of somebody.

I'm a zombie Apple fanboy, but this week has been trying. I was lucky with my 3G iPhone. Got it five minutes after the Apple Store opened and activated it within ten.

The phone's been fine. MobileMe has been terrible. I just switched off Push and "cloud" syncing and went back to my old process. Which worked fine.

I'll wait a few weeks for them to fix MobileMe before I try again.

5. Was finally able to log in on my Mac

on Sunday night. Everything looks good, though my old web pages are buried under a couple more layers of directory. :P

I still can't see how to log in from another computer though. When you go to the apple web site, there's all the PR about MobileMe, but I can't seem to find a link to sign in with. :shrug:

Anyone else want to share?

For every .mac address you have, you also now have a .me address.

I'm still planning on using the .mac addresses for now, though. I am planning on setting up my own business and somehow an email address that reads:

supernova'[e-mail] just sound's silly to me. :P

10. Yes. In fact the day before the switchover I revived two additional .mac addresses.

That I had created years ago for free.

Added them to my main account as email only.

I can use .me or .mac with all three. Guess which I prefer?
