this phone needs a compass! |
|
i have a notoriously bad sense of direction, especially when the sun is not out. my old gps kept track of your relative position, and used a little car for an icon, which told you which direction you were moving. i do not understand how the iphone could be missing a compass of SOME sort, but alas, it is true. fat lot of good a map does you without a compass. yes, i know, you can watch your little blue pin to make sure you are going the right way. i invariably take the wrong guess. but the way the gps sucks the battery, watching it out of the corner of your eye requires the forethought to have a full charge. so, there are quite a few compasses available at the app store. most sound like sad, gerry-rigged things. anyone have a recommendation?

1. I hate to say it in the Mac forum ...... |

..... but the Blackberry Storm has a bang-up GPS implementation. I used it side by side with my Garmin on a trip this past Tuesday. Just as good on the GPS side. On the upside, it also has traffic, which I never subscribed to on the Garmin. And the 'car' icon on both shows not only where you are, but, as you want, the direction which you're heading.

2. well, i am stuck with the damn phone. |
|
i am really underwhelmed with the damn thing. i was very grateful when my hard drive crashed that at least my phone had my contacts, and could put them right back for me. but that is about the only time so far. i'm a little hosed at apple right now also that i bought the stupid leopard upgrade, so i could back up by stuff, and it won't back up to idisk. i guess i pay $100 year just to have a .mac address. so, i have to dig up a disk drive to back up to. i did send that dead drive out to be resurrected. they put your data on a new drive, so i am hoping i can use that. (thank ja for bonuses.) not really in the mood to buy a time capsule. i am about appled out. i appreciate apple, but they can also be pretty f'ing infuriating, too.
