Airport Extreme with DSL modem. Help! |
|
Edited on Fri May-22-09 11:07 AM by supernova
I'm having a hard time getting my Airport Extreme router to play nicely with my Verizon DSL modem.
The router is functioning normally, the modem is functioning normally. All lights green. But if it try to get on the internet via AE, nothing. Connection status displays all green except IP.
I've got the Ethernet plugged in to the MacBook at the moment.
I'm not sure what AE setting to fix? Any suggestions? Does anyone else have a similar setup?

1. We need to know your settings to help. You use the Airport Utility? |
|
How about the settings in you System Preferences? You will need to select your Network name in System Preferences/Network.

2. Yes, I'm using the Airport Utility |
|
System preferences are set for Airport when it is plugged in. It's set to Built-in Ethernet right now though.

3. Is your Verizon router also a wireless router? |
|
There might be a conflict. I think you can turn the Verizon wireless off.

configure: Getting the AE to work with the Verizon dsl modem
edit: As in my OP, if I plug in the AE to the dsl modem, the internet stops working on my laptop. If I plug my laptop directly into the dsl modem, it works fine. Except I don't have a wireless signal in the house because the AE is disconnected.

7. What brand is the Modem from Verizon? See if there are any issues with |
|
that brand.
I would do a hard reset and start all over again.

8. power cycle the dsl modem |
|
Many DSL modems will lock-on to the first ethernet address they see ... so I'm guessing that's why the modem is working with your laptop and not with the express.
After switching in the express router, turn off the DSL modem (I'd leave it off for a minute), then power it back on.
Hope this helps :-)
