I got a used G3 Blue and White and I want to upgrade it |
|
I bought it for $35 when my iMac got zapped by lightning.
I need details and prices for turning this ten year old dinosaur into something that works a little better.
Anyone out there knows the deal?

1. Here's a couple of sites I use often. |

Low End Mac is good for finding out exactly what you've got, and how it can be upgraded. http://lowendmac.com/ppc/blue-white-power-mac-g3.htmlMac-Pro has good deals on all kinds of used computers and parts. (I just bought a G5 from them.) http://www.mac-pro.com/s.nl/sc.2/category.174/.f

http://eshop.macsales.com/search/G3+processor+upgradeI had a G4 upgrade, from 400 Mhz to 1.4Mhz. Difference between being useless in OSX and running Tiger, no problem.

or OS 9.x I would NOT suggest running X.
I ran it on a bandy blue ages ago, and it slowed to a crawl. it worked but omfg!
The first thing I'd say you should do is to replace the hard drive. Cheap and easy to do.
The second thing is see if you can upgrade the RAM.
Beyond that you can only make it functional with older software. newer stuff just won't work. and I don't even know if you can get upgrades of any browsers anymore since Mac went PC a while back.
It may not be long before even web browsing is limited.
But I wish you very sincerely luck =]
