OK. New iMac...piss off time! Firewire port has changed. |
|
They changed the firewire port. They give us the traditional firewire, so that all the FW HDDs out there use it too, and now they changed on the back of the new iMac to the M$ version of the connector.:grr:
I would have been able to boot up this new system with my Time Machine, but noooooooooooooo. I have to go back to the Apple Store where I wring Little Chad's neck for not telling me I'm going to need an adapter to use Time Machine or any FW device.
BTW: My old Mac's Hard drive died. Clicking on boot, and a "?" over a file. HDD dead as a doornail.

1. Apple's attitude towards connectors costs them a lot of goodwill, I think |

I'm a mac guy, but it pisses me off that I can't go to radio shack and buy a cable to hook my laptop to our television. No, it's not a mini DVI, like every other laptop, it's some weird-ass mac-only deal. Things like this are what keep macs from being a true opposition to MS. It's the little things, the things that become inconvenient

2. M$ version of the connector?? |
|
M$ has never been involved with FW, except as a follower...maybe.

5. The FW800 style connector is better |
|
You can't reverse the plug and cause a funky fresh short circuit. I learned that the hard way... FW400 connectors do have a "polarization" feature but the female connectors on the host device are usually one-piece sheet metal with a cap that can be widened with ease...
I'll agree the initial shock of "Oi, where's the connector!!" is aggravating...
