I just updated Firefox but now my bookmarks |
|
are lost and so is my history. I can't get into firefox at all.
At the top of the page it said bookmarks and history will not be functional because one of firefox's files is in use by another app. some security software can cause this problem. I can't understand what to do, can someone help me?
note: I am entering this for monique1 because her computer is the one having trouble and I am relaying to her.

1. Does she have the older version running in the background? |
|
I would make sure that all versions of firefox are closed, then try again.
If that doesn't work, I would go back to the earlier version and try updating again.

4. aside from restarting, try control-command-escape |
|
that will bring up force quit, and if the other one is running it should (I think) have Firefox listed twice

8. this is a Mac forum... |

not Windows :) Unfortunately Windows has crept into the world of flight simulation. God damn, I hate it. We have Sun boxes that we reboot every couple of weeks only because our PM's say to. The windows machines get rebooted every night, and sometimes you have to pull the damn plug to make them shut down. Bill Gates better have a fence around his grave when he goes, because I will be making a trip to piss on it.

5. I agree with the restart advice. It is rare on a Mac, but still necessary sometimes. |
|
If that doesn't work, you'll need to provide more details such as what KIND of security software is on the machine - more than one package can do this sort of thing. Also, if possible, post the previous version of FireFox that was on the machine and when the current upgrade was attempted. The history and bookmarks should be quite safe. You can even do a full install of a new version of FireFox without messing those up - and that's true on Mac, Linux, and EVEN Micro$oft systems.
