Anyone here play with both?
I use my iPad extensively for my law practice. Seriously. My entire office is not only on computer in my office, but portably available on the iPad. Every document scanned, every exhibit, every deposition, every pleading, available where ever I am. (it has saved me many times already)
My question is, has anyone gotten both, and are the performance differences between 1 and 2 significant enough to justify shelling out $900 so soon?

I just bought an iPad2 yesterday, and have had an iPad since launch last year.
I decided to upgrade because I use my iPad a lot, and I was beginning to notice the limitations of the original iPad's performance. It was just little things in terms of speed and performance, but they were beginning to add up. So I took the plunge.
I don't think anyone would pick up an iPad2 and go "Holy smokes, that thing is fast!" but the additional speed is noticeable in everyday use in terms of how quickly apps and files open and just a more general snappy feel to the OS. I expect more and more iPad2 optimized apps will be coming, too. I will say that InfinityBlade and GarageBand are amazing on the iPad2. In terms of productivity, I think Keynote runs a lot better, too.
The one thing that I love is how sleek and light it feels in my hands. That thinner profile and flat back make a huge difference in how the device feels in your hands. It isn't all that much lighter than the original, but it feels like a world of difference. My old iPad feels clunky in my hands now.
The cameras are pretty meh, but I didn't really buy it for that.
So, bottom line, you aren't going to notice blazing fast improvements in speed yet, but you will see a noticeable improvement, I think. If your original does what you need it to do and you are happy with the performance, you could probably skip this upgrade, and wait for the iPad3. I'm pretty happy with it so far.
Hope this helps.

As much of a MacHead as my wife and I are, we don't even have an iPad yet. I wanted the iPad 2 to make me want to stand in line all day, but it really seems more like iPad 1.5.
We have iPhone 4s which deliver much of the value of an iOS device and my wife has a Kindle, which she loves.
I predict that we will pick up an iPad 3 next year to share.

I just bought a used 32GB wifi ipad1, literally, minutes ago. It is a gift for our daughter, but also a trial for us. Good to know this is a reasonable example for a trial.

I have the first one and my husband the 2nd generation. I really see NO differences. I might inherit my husband's ipad2 (he "had" to replace a computer going bad) but I told him to sell it on ebay instead. He might even get much more than what he paid for it. I am happy with my first generation. I won't be considering an upgrade, really... I have what I need. This is my working computer as it holds all my pdf research papers and books for school.
