Yesterday, I came across the a link that tried to do the 'Mac Defender' thing to me. |
|
Crazy web page window popped open and 'scanned' my drive for malware, then after a few moments, informed me that my Mac was 'infected.'
Looked very close to a regular Finder window and listed a couple of dozen 'infected' files in red. The font was wrong and there was a fake 'Apple Security Center' box attached to the bottom of the window. A fake message window inside the fake Finder window asked me to 'remove' the malware by clicking the 'Remove all' button.
I did not.
It even downloaded Three zip files (called 'anti-malware.zip') into my downloads folder as a second chance to attack me.
This all happened before I could react and shut down my browser.
FYI: No webpage out there that does this is a real service. No such thing.
After force quitting Safari and disposing of the zip files, I scanned my Mac for 'malware' just in case.
Nothing.
