I am troubled that there was not even a Dem congressman running this last |
|
election.
At my polling place, there was no Dem congressman even running. Why is that?
I know little about the local Dem party machine, but still, not even a candidate. Whats wrong with this picture? I have not been active locally, maybe I should?
Any suggestions or help with the cong 10 in Georgia?

1. Why don't you run, if nobody else is? |
|
It would make a good story. You could test all kinds of crazy ideas.

2. I agree with the person about running yourself |
|
but decide now if you want to.
You'll need to get your name in there and immediately start fundraising and networking.
Also, don't count on the state party yet. It's Bobby Khan's job to recruit candidates and we see what a miserable failure he did this go around.
I don't give a damn what any of you say, it was his fault alone that we lost the Senate seat. Majette is a nice lady. I've met her on several occasions and had friends working for her, so I actually had a lot of access to her, but she wasn't the right candidate to go up against any Republican that they ran and we all know it.
As for you running, it's completely possible. Several people ran this year for seats that have no political experience at all (i.e. never held an elected position before). A friend of mine ran against Brooks Coleman in Gwinnett just because Gov. Dean inspired him to and no Dem had run in that district for so long. Also, Silvia Delamar ran in the 8th Cong District for the same reason. I think it had been something like 14 years since the last Dem ran in that district.
They got in at the last minute. Start now with your groundwork and lay your foundation. Network like hell and get the money rolling in. And dig. Dig up whatever dirt you can - they will do it to you. Also, watch every single vote your rep makes.
It can be done. :)

3. Hell, I'm in the 8th district, and the Dems just ran a sacrificial lamb |
|
She didn't stand a chance in hell of winning. And for our local county offices (Henry) - not ONE Dem for any office. We need to get involved in the state party.

6. I would like to refer you to a group |
|
www.georgiafordemocracy.org
It's an offshoot of the Dean Campaign here in GA. Highly organized and deeply committed to finding progressive candidates. They're good people (like me :) ) and I personally know your county chair - the most wonderful woman you'd ever want to meet. Totally committed to the ideals of democracy.

7. That is how the repubes took control |
|
30 years ago, they started organizing in a big way, and NO race was too small for them to concentrate on.. School board..city council,, you name it..
It irks me to no end when i see complete capitulation on local levels..
Even in my BLUE state of CA, there are races that NO democrat even bothers to file for..so of course a repube jumps in and always wins it.:(
Our national party tends to "get involved" for the BIG ones, but doesn't seem to realize that a measly few thousand dollars, well spent in local races can start people down the path of recognition, so that a few years later they CAN run for congress..:grr:
shortsighted ninnies :(

4. In my district, there were no Democrats at all running |
|
for county offices. All Republicans, so I didn't waste my votes on them.
