Hey I'm a Yankee and I wanna talk!! |
|
Technically, I'm not, I'm from Washington state which identifies with the North most commonly, but really had nothing to do with the whole deal.
Personally, i feel sad for what happens on here to southern democrats. It's hard to be fighting for what you believe against others who believe in generally the same thing. I think Southern democrats are, and have long been, an important if not vital part of the Democratic electorate and shouldn't be clumped into one massive stereotype by their locations in a red state.
That's just my two cents - I want to try and have productive conversation with our allies down south and not turn it into a civil-war grudgefest. I think we should be friends and work together, instead of apart, to move America in the right direction.
Thanks for hearing me out! I wish others would listen to me...

I was born and raised in Texas, but have lived on both coasts. My family just moved back from 3 years in Tumwater, WA where we were active in the Democratic Party and the Washington State Employees Union.
You know as well as I that there are die hard christian right wing conservative libertian nutcases up there as well as down here. (I wrote a piece about State Sen. Joe Zerelli which was printed in the articles here a couple of years ago) Even in WA, there are certain counties where it is difficult, if not dangerous, to have an open mind and an open mouth. Progressive Democrats in those counties may be hard to come by, but the ones that are there work extra hard and desrve all the support they can get from the bluer areas of the state.
The same is true in national politics as well. All this "red state" bashing is so counter productive. It only hurts the people in the blue states :hurts: by making it harder for us to do the work we have to do down here. We all need each other.
We need the support of our Progressive friends in blue states, but we just get their scorn and contempt.
Your comments welcome and refreshing. Thanks :yourock:
BTW, where are you from in WA? (and, technically you are a Yankee, but what the heck, were all Democrats here, right?) :)

6. Washington is a beautiful state |
|
I've been there several times. Extraordinary place.
But I wouldn't leave my home to live there -- because this is my home -- Alabama.
Likewise, I refuse to let the idiots who drive around with those nasty W stickers drive me out of my home.
I wish some of the folks on this board who like to trash the South understood that.

Some of the people here don't seem to realize or care that we're all in this thing together. You're comments are appreciated down here in the buckle of the Bible-belt! :hi:
