What is your favorite thing about the South? |
|
I love bluegrass music. I can listen to it all night long.
What about everyone else?

I don't understand folks who move down here and then complain about the heat. I just love it - even the humidity. But I've been in the south all my life.

5. I like the weather here in North Georgia. |
|
I lived in Miami most of my life until 1989 when I moved to Georgia. And I was amazed that there were actually seasons and not year-round summer and a bit of spring. And unless you have lived in South Florida, you don't know about miserable humidity.

Hey,
I'm currently reading Charles Chesnutt's The Marrow of Tradition, and just got a U. of Mississippi Press catalog which announces publication of two NEVER BEFORE PUBLISHED novels by Chesnutt. There really does seem to be an inexhaustible supply of great Southern fiction to read-- and I'm otherwise a straight non-fiction reader.
Then there's the architecture, not so great in every Southern state but glorious in VA and NC.

4. The weather. And my least favorite thing? The weather. |
|
Edited on Tue Mar-15-05 12:12 PM by Frogtutor
Mild winters, sunny skies; (I barely wore a coat at all this year) warm water (cool enough to be refreshing, but warm enough to be comfortable; 86 F is ideal for me)in lakes and at the Gulf Coast. We went to Orange County, CA a couple of years ago and I couldn't even get in the water. It was freezing, and I just knew my heart would stop, even though everyone else thought it was great!
On the other hand: bad hair days, thunderstorms with chances of tornadoes and hail, cars that feel like blast furnaces upon opening the door after a few hours, outrageous electric bills, almost zero chance of snow.
Yeah, it's a love-hate relationship!

Country ham with biscuits and redeye gravy, collard greens, fried chicken, key lime pie, cheese grits, black eyed peas - I could go on all day!

7. New Orleans (every thing about it) and the Delta Blues. |
|
That's two things but, hey, it's a lot of territory to cover.
