Dreamfields pasta. Anybody else tried it? |
|
I found this new pasta that claims to have only 5 grams of digestible carbs per serving whereas regular pasta has somewhere in the neighborhood of 35-42 grams per serving. It has a fiber called Inulin which is supposed to make all the difference. It limits the rise in blood sugar levels by 65% over regular.
The stuff tastes great (it's not gummy or cardboardy like other "healthy" pastas) but it's pricey. It costs $1.99 per pound and that's the sales price here in Philly; it's usually $2.69/lb.
I'm not an Adkins adherent but I limit pasta because I can't stop myself once I get started. This stuff is like a dream come true. Pasta has been put back in the dinner rotation at chez MMA.

1. I'm going to look for it |
|
The name sounds familiar but I don't recognize the packaging. Our stores carry so many brands, though. I wouldn't be surprised if I find it. Thanks for the heads up.

is what Sweetleaf Stevia is bound into, too. I haven't seen it here yet. If I had read this thread before I went to Whole Foods today, I would have looked there. Thanx! :hi:

3. Yes, I use it quite a bit |
|
I eat a lower carb diet and have been enjoying this product. I use it only about once a month as it triggers cravings for more pasta if I eat it more often. If you are looking for another good quality low carb product you might want to look for CarbQuick. It's a low carb baking mix like Bisquick. It's far superior to other low carb flour substitutes.

4. We have just discovered it |
|
in the past few months and love it. I was a bit apphrensive after trying some adkins type brand years ago which was nasty. I bought some bobs red mill low carb baking mix that I am going to try this week. I am trying to lose some prednisone induced weight and slim hubby down at the same time. I don't want to get all drastic but am cutting carbs here and there.
I ordered a wok as I am in a major oriental cooking mode lately and my largest skillet wasn't working for me. It should be here Fri and I am going tomorrow to our little saigon to stock up on lots of ingredients. I love new kitchen toys.

6. I'll look in the morning and post it |
|
Here is the website. http://www.bobsredmill.com/catalog/index.php?action=showdetails&product_ID=536but I don't see where they list the carb content. I'll find it in the morning. I figured if they make it it has got to be good. :) I ordered it on Amazon.com.

7. I found it at my supermarket today and made some tonight |
|
I like it. Boiled to al dente it has a nice tooth. I'm going to have the store get me some of the linguine and other kinds. Today I only found the spaghetti and elbows. Thanks for posting about it as I like this a lot.

8. Asked my dietician about it today, and... |
|
she says these "net carb" claims are unregulated and generally to be taken with a grain of salt for now.
So, I bought some of this ridiculously expensive stuff and will be experimenting with my glucose meter to see if it really does help with blood glucose levels.

I have given up trying to eat pasta.
edit: Like the empress, once I start eating pasta, I can't stop. Same goes for bread or rice or other refined carbs.
There was a brand that was pretty good, a line from the al dente brand that I think has about 10 carbs/serving. I can't find it in the stores, though. I can only get it from the lady that sells spices and flavored oils at the flea market.
