It's 102 right now. It is normal for it to be this hot this time of year. I just made Arroz Con Pollo. It smells too yummy. I'm just chillin' after fixing it until I'm ready to eat. I do feel your pain though.

again. You are one brave, pioneering soul and exceptionally dedicated wife to make fresh bread in that weather. Even here, our electricity bill doubled last month (we've only had AC on twice at night) and this month-hoo boy! I bet it's triple what we usually pay. 109 degrees with, what? 82% humidity? Even if it's bone dry, 109 is enough to make me keel over. Be careful out there, sis. A person could get hurt. :loveya:

7. It's therapy of sorts

My job is in jeopardy. I had all of last week off, everyone did. They told us to call in this next wednesday to find out if we're laid of permanently or not ... so, I bake to avoid feeling sorry and scared for myself.

11. Well, the pop tarts weren't a wise choice

in these temps. Even with AC it's still too warm in here for this very soft dough. I keep having to put it in the freezer in different stages to make it workable.

12. mmmm homemade bread

my nose can just smell it! My mom used to make both strawberry jam and homemade bread on a hot summer day. Then we would take the heels of the bread and eat them with the pink "scum" that was scooped off the top of the boiling jam. Good times, good times.

I am pitting a big flat of pie cherries tonight -- couldn't believe I actually snagged some at the farmers market today. I will cook some down for ice cream topping, and freeze the rest.

I also got some transparent apples -- I haven't seen those in a while. I will peel & slice and freeze them. And the farmer gave me a sample apple called "Melba" -- never heard of that variety!

And I bought two beautiful huge bunches of multi-colored carrots to make some refrigerator pickled carrots. I love those.

Love the market!

Tomorrow I am making a batch of whole wheat banana bread for the kid in the family who is working as a fishing coach at summer camp prior to starting college this fall. Gotta keep those care packages in the mail! My mom was very good about sending little care packages to family members, even if it was just a little matchbox car and some gummi bears.

I'm so glad they are really booming and growing all over the country. And really glad you got some cherries. I've never heard of a transparent apple. Hm.

P.S. Earlier, I put a whole wheat bread in the bread baker and walked out the door to go shopping. It makes the kitchen a little hotter plus it's muggy today. But it came out nice for an "all whole wheat flour" bread. Dense but not like a rock. :D

14. It won't help you now

but tell Santa Claus that what you want for Xmas is a Sun Oven. With one of those you can do bread, casseroles, baked chickens, roasts, and a small daily batch of cookies from refrigerated dough for the next day's lunch, all without heating up the kitchen. The only problem is the occasional windy day, they're not much good then unless you fancy chasing the reflectors over 3 counties.

this is the first year I cannot go outside. I'm beginning to find places that will deliver. So far, I am having great luck for deliveries.
