| After my oven broke last night, I needed to bake my cheesecake in the toaster Oven...WOW |
|
It turned out just about perfect. It was every so slightly undercooked, so it was a little more creamy in some spots, but i took it out early because the top was getting a little too brown. In the end I think I needed to keep a close eye on it, and rotate it every so often because it was clear that the top on two sides got cooked a lot more than the other two.
Ive been struggling with how to bake the perfect cheesecake without it cracking/leaking with the water bath. Maybe I'll just stick with the toaster.

| 1. I use the toaster oven from May-October here in the high desert. |

Heating the house up with the conventional oven is just not an option for me, not even with the swamp cooler going full blast to blow the heat out the kitchen window. The solar oven is great, but I can't use it when it gets too breezy.
I'm not surprised it did a good job on cheesecake. I've done some remarkable things in mine, often with a piece of tinfoil laid on top if the top is getting too brown.

My daughter and her fiance will be going away to grad school this fall and I was looking at countertop convection/toaster ovens so I don't have to heat up the ancient Jen-Air in the kitchen just cooking for myself.

| 5. my advice: spend a wee bit more |

I bought a GE countertop convection oven for under $100 and it does NOT get up to temperature. It also gets pretty hot on the outside. It takes a very long time to make a piece of toast.
So I think if doing it again, I would get a better model.

| 3. I've done a lot on the toaster |

The only thing is temp varies and don't even try anything needing 425.

I had it all wrapped in foil like I was going to make it in a water bath though because I originally planned to use the oven.

| 6. I don't have a regular oven. |
|
All I have is a toaster oven, and yesterday I baked my very-first-ever bread in it. I shaped it like a foot-long sub sandwich bread, and it turned out pretty okay for my very first try.
Some experimentation with temperature is in order, of course, but I've got a big batch of dough in the fridge and will play with it until I get it right.

we almost have my husband convinced of how horrible this thing is!
He bought it and we have hated it ever since.
I'm glad you had good luck with yours! :)

| 11. Can't it just run away from home |
|
and leave a note?
Or maybe a kidnapping, note also? You could do this and in its place leave a milk carton with a "Have You Seen this Toaster Oven?" and a picture of it on the side of the carton?
:P
