| Fresh Tagalongs! The Girl Scout cookies are here... |
|
We ate a box of the Tagalongs last night. I had three cookies. The creamy peanut butter, the crisp cookie, YUM! So I just now looked up a recipe for Tagalongs and found this blog recipe. I think I'll try it (in October!) :) http://www.wearenotmartha.com/2011/01/homemade-tagalong-cookies/

I miss the lemon cookies that had oh, about 15 years ago now or so. The cookie part was a crisp, lightish pastry type of cookie with the lemon creme in between. They were delicious and haven't been around for so long, but I still think about them. :9

table where they are selling them - none of my friends seem to have girls that age anymore.

How the hell does one coat these cookies all over with thick melted chocolate WITHOUT making an awful mess?
I finally gave up and just spread the chocolate over the tops of them.
And thank you for the  babe. Backatcha!

 I could just see myself doing it and making a horrible mess.( I think it might just be better to buy em...and for a good cause, anyway.)
Was this before or after the cake dish... :D
I noticed that Housewolf posted this. Wonder if tempering the chocolate would make it easier... or did you do that? I never have...

| 10. A hint to working with chocolate |
|
keep it over another bowl or pan of warm/hot water to keep it melted, and stir it frequently.
Place the cookie on a fork (one with less tines, like a meat serving fork) works better
Dip the cookie into the chocolate, submerge into the chocolate, lift out with the fork and let the excess chocolate drip off. Gentlely wipe/scrape the bottom of the fork on the edge of the bowl.
Place an edge of the cookie on waxed paper and quickly pull out the fork, letting the cookie drop onto the waxed paper, or use the tip of a knife to sort of hold the cookie in place while you pull the fork away from the cookie.
But yeah, dipping into melted chocolate can be real messy! But sometimes, totally worth it (I'm thinking dipped homemade marshmallows... ummmmmm! Totally better than any commercial choc covered marshmallow I've ever had!)

I think it would have helped to have kept the chocolate warmer than it was the whole time, also I usually use a little cream and butter when I melt it for ganache. Next time I will try that. Next time...LOL!
Thanx, babe! :loveya:
P.S. I have been unable to access DU from home the past couple of days. Not ignoring anyone, just not able to get on. Bill was able to get in using a public DNS so I'll configure my computer that way tonight if I get some time.

I still don't know exactly what I did. I found the first part of Skinner's message and saw the numbers he suggested. Then I googled how to change a DNS ("they" can call me Amish or whatever for not knowing this; I will ask them about their cooking knowledge, lol) and I followed the pictures to type in the numbers and then it worked again.
I don't tweet. I don't have facebook. But I cook from scratch (most of the time) so there!
I missed my C & B group!

| 16. Added cream and butter will give you a much softer chocolate |
|
that may stay kinda soft rather than setting up hard, but will still taste great.
Anyway, just some ideas in case you change your mind about never trying to make them again.
YW!

| 17. Tempering chocolate can indeed be a pain |
|
and the really only reason for doing it is to get that hard, shiny finish. You don't really need to temper it for coating the cookies for your own home use, they'll taste just as great with chocolate that's just been melted but not tempered.
Have fun!

Girl Scout cookies were $.40 a box. My mom always bought 40 boxes from me because I have a younger brother.
Da mints are still da bomb! Your receipt/cancelled check is tax deductible. Love the Girl Scouts - real sweeties who do good work.

I justify buying so many as merely a good cause. And my boys can NEVER EVER have too many cookies in the house. :)
