| Made Alton Brown's funnel cakes this morning... |
|
All circumstances were against us but when you tell your kids you will make funnel cakes, they hold you to it - like dogs waiting for a treat.
First, I needed to get to work. Was up in the night because of the storm (dog is a big baby and cried) and I was tired. So I felt like I was running late.
It's too cold and windy but I didn't want to smell up the house with hot oil. We've done these outside before under much better circumstances.
I could not remember what recipe I've used before so I googled and came up with AB's version. Seemed fine except the batter was TOO thick and eggy. I should have modified but I like to give a recipe one pass.
Oil took longer to heat up and the wind did not help. Still, we forged ahead with the plan.
They came out like french toast blobs and were pretty tasty. I felt a pinch of cinnamon would have been good.
Covered in powdered sugar, the teens ate a couple plates of 'em. I went to work smelling like a carnie. :)
Would not recommend trying this at home! Please, if someone has a good recipe, let me know.

I love funnel cakes but have never been brave enouogh to try at home. You have inspired me. Will start to check for recipes- think I may have one filed away.
Good idea to fry outside. I do my fried chicken that way when I can.
