We had no power yesterday. A trip for dry ice saved the food in the freezer, but some was pretty thawed. Our neighbors had some shrimp that was kinda thawed, so we cooked it.
Ad Hoc Jambalaya or, as we dubbed it, Hurricane Shrimp:
Thawed shrimp Canned: stewed tomatoes, succotash, okra Seasonings: Creole stuff found in various pantries
Mix it all together, boil, add the shrimp until just cooked. Serve over rice. Each dish cooked on a grill side burner and brought together at a third house that has a nice screened porch.
Add candles and some merlot.

I've tossed everything that was in the frig part that was spoilable, but what about the freezer section stuff? Most seemed to still largely be frozen, so my plan is to eat it within a week. Yes? No? Trying to err in the side of safety. Power was out for 8-10 hours.

| 2. I should think it is all safe. |

The worst that may have happened is that you lost some quality. As something freezes and then thaws, if all is done properly, only a few cells burst. Quality is off, but not in a noticeable way. Refreezing bursts many more cells, and has a more or less noticeable affect on quality. Food would be "bad" only if it spoiled and was then refrozen. Pretty much no chance of that in 8-10 hours.
I wouldn't worry about having to reuse it quickly. Within a month or two ought to be just fine.

By the way, it was nice spending time with neighbors, even though we were peering at incoming waves and wondering about our houses :-)
