My Mom

[Mrs. Venation]

Mama called me last evening. Her health has been declining for quite some time, and she has been struggling to maintain a healthy weight. She has been steadily losing weight, which has caused her doctor great concern. Mama had a CAT scan done last week.

Yesterday she got a call from her doctor's office. The scan shows a lesion on her lung of 14 c.m., which is pretty large. Mama is 76 years old, and she has been smoking cigarettes since she was a teenager. It doesn't take a rocket scientist to figure out the likelihood here.

My dad has stage 3 Alzheimer's disease. My mama is scared to death. After 56 years of marriage, they are facing the worst of reality.

Please pray for my mama, Alice, and my dad, James, and for me, Kathy. My mama is going to need me, and I have to be strong for her.

My cousin died from lung cancer less than one year ago; I cannot tell you how frightened I am.

Mom saw a pulmonologist, who looked at the CAT scan report, took a couple more x-rays, and said he was 95% certain the lesion is scar tissue.

Mom had another test last week that should remove all doubt about the nature of the lesion.
