Woman on train with fussing baby. |
|
I just wanted to share this little moment.
A woman boarded the train with a baby in a stroller who was starting to pitch a fit. She also had a toddler with her. She looked very tired. As her baby was starting to make more noise, the mother took a glance around. I could tell she was nervous and conscious of people judging her.
I gave her the warmest smile I could and said, "Babies cry. That's just what they do."
She looked very relieved, and her baby calmed down as soon as the train started moving.
So one mother was spared from the kid-haters today.

1. Good for you! You probably calmed her down enough |
|
so that she could calm her kids down. You know, kids pick up on even subtle hints of stress in their parents. When you're stressed the kids act worse ... it feeds on itself. It's so sad that people have to be nervous about kids acting like kids in public. You did a good thing for that mom!!

I hope my son and I will be treated the same, as I'm bound to find myself in a similar situation.

5. Thanks. It's 'cause of you guys. |

I was very aware because of the conversation lately about intolerance of children who act like children.

6. I'm hardly ever out alone with my baby. |
|
But my husband is all the time. I hope people treat he and my son with understanding and acceptance. so that's what I will try to offer.

7. Good for you - it's true |
|
Babies do cry and parents don't have a magic wand to make them stop. The last thing a harried mom needs is to feel guilty because her baby is crying. The kids feel the stress and it has to make things worse.

...how many times a situation like this turns abusive directly because of the scorn and pressure the parent feels from onlookers.
Anyway, thanks for the kind words and for lettiung me share.
