SIL has cancer. Any books or advice? |
|
My brother's wife has Stage 3 cervical cancer. Her prognosis isn't good. Aside from making myself available as a babsitter (to their 3 young children) anytime, is there anything else I can do? Anyone know of a good book on this? i.e. helping young children cope? This is so devestating as she is the universe in that family. I'm just the ok aunt they sorta know, so I don't know what I can really do right now.

Big hugs to you both. If there is a Gilda's Club near you, they usually have a good library for just this sort of thing. If not Gilda's, there might be a patient resource library affiliated with one of the nearest hospitals. The American Cancer website might recommend books, too.
The only thing I can think of off the top of my head is food prep and laundry and ferrying the kids to where they need to be.

2. Help her to have more time with her kids... |
|
of course babysit when they can (and you can) but help them by doing the stuff that prevents her from having time with her children...by doing that you will be giving them more quality time with their mother...
I pray that she will recover!!!

My SIL passed two years ago from ovarian cancer, leaving behind a 15 month old little girl. My brother is still not over it, don't think he ever will be.
I am also just the aunt, but he knows I am here if he needs me. I think that is the best you can do. I also took her for a couple of weeks this summer to give him a break.
God bless.
