| Kids and forgetting something |
|
My kid...a 2nd grader, forgets something vital every day, like a lunchbox, clothes. It gets annoying to the kid so he gets upset.
How can I instill a sense of remembering personal belongings?

| 2. The best way to improve memory is to make associations. |
|
Try having him associate the front door with all the things he needs before he leaves. Make a list of all the standards, lunchbox, homework, keys, etc. Have him concentrate on the list and then stare at the front door. Have him repeat the excersise a couple times.
The result should be that whenever he approaches the front door, he thinks of everything on the list you made.
You can even associate the front door with a phrase, like, "Do I need anything else?"
Let me know if you try it and how it works.

I'll make up something for the front door this weekend and see if it makes a difference!

Everyday he walk out the door two, three, sometimes four times before he actually goes off to work. He's a grown man! I could never understand it until his father came to visit from Ireland. Everytime his dad got ready to go anywhere it was the same thing: in and out of the house several times before really leaving. And still he left his camera here.
I'm gonna blame it on a lack of fish. Neither one of them will eat anything that comes out of the ocean. I try to get Kevin to at least take fish oil supplements or flax oil, but do ya think he remembers?
Maybe I should have him try the suggestions from rbnyc....
