| Neat site for predicting how tall your child will be. |
|
I thought this was interesting. I have been using it for the past few years for my son. So far the results have been pretty consistent. My son will probably end up being just under 6 ft tall. http://pediatrics.about.com/gi/dynamic/offsite.htm?site=http://www.keepkidshealthy.com/welcome/yahtpredictor.html

| 1. It's interesting looking back. |

When our daughters were little, the pediatrician told us that for girls, you double their height at 18 months as a predictor of how tall they would be.
It worked for two of the three girls. #1 was 33' and is 5'6", #2 was 34" and is 5'8". Our youngest, according to her height of 35" at 18 months, should grow to 5'10", but she won't grow that tall. She's currently almost 5'6" and is probably almost done growing.
The site you gave could not predict her height because she was over the 97th percentile at 18 months.
Thanks for providing it!

| 2. wow, this is pretty interesting |

my son plays basketball and he's 5'11" at age 16. of course, he is desperate to grow a few more inches! i crunched the numbers on that site, and his eventual height is prediced to be.....5'11" - 6 feet tall. he won't be happy to hear this.

I'll book mark for future reference Thanks!
on a seperate note, I used this for myself. At age 12 I was 4'11". I am still the same height, but the predictor was not that far off. It predicted 5'3" as my final height.

She's just too short! Ah well, I figure she'll probably end up about the same height as me (5'0") give or take and inch or two.

| 6. Please, don't get into the height and weight predictions |
|
It's best to just let it happen. I know. My youngest was just small. She weighed about 6 lbs, 6 ozs at birth and just continued to be small. I have looked at those crazy predictions way too many times. All were worried that she was projected to be very, very small. The problem was is that my eldest was tall, my husband is tall, and all his relatives are tall. About five the doctors started worrying. She was in the the 5 percent range on height and weight. We started to come in every few months for a check and they checked my eldest and us for height. Eventually, the docs started talking growth hormones. My youngest was very small. I said no, we weren't going to do that. She is now 5'4" and is exactly my height. Well, we argue who is taller. I just wish I hadn't bought into worrying about the various milestones. She grew late, she's normal for my side of the family, and none of us should have ever worried about it. My husband's side of the family is much taller, but kids are just who they are.

| 7. I know for me it's not a "worry" thing - |
|
just a "fun" thing - like wondering if his hair is going to turn dark brown (like his dad and I) or stay "dirty/strawberry/blonde" like his aunts & uncle (on dad's side)...

| 8. Let me tell you how very wrong these things can be... |
|
based on the information in that calculator ...my husband should have only been around 5'6"
He is 6' 1"
my husband was always a slight young boy....always shortest in his class. During the last two years of high school he grew over 6 inches.
People grow at different rates and at different times.
My son used to be in the 10th percentile...he is now in the 25th percentile...
Nutrition is better and different today as well. We eat a lot more foritifed stuff today than our parents did and that affects growth as well.
