I'm gradually reconciling myself to my daughter's boyfriend |
|
I didn't like him at first because he's a bit strange. I should talk. I'm fairly strange myself.
He ended up sleeping over last night because we all fell asleep on the couch. I've read them the riot act a few times about getting too smoochy-smoochy around me and pointed out this morning that I was NOT amused with my step-daughter being an unwed mother with two children by different fathers. My ex-wife didn't put her foot down in that situation (I was lied to).
Nevertheless, he cringes realistically when I wave a crowbar at him (it's a HL2 reference - we're all gamers). It's her I'm more worried about than him.
However, Ank reports they were French-kissing this afternoon so my lecture may have lacked impact.
Where do I draw the line?

1. Depends on their ages.. If she's 15 & he's 18, LOOK OUT |
|
If they are both 16 or 17, you just have to watch them like a hawk, and know in your heart that if they "get the chance', they probably "will"..
Make sure she knows about birth control and disease prevention.
Here's the lecture I gave my boys...
Sex is fun.. it feels great and you will want it more and more as you get older...
BUT...
you "can" catch something that could kill you
you "could" end up paying child support to a woman you don't even like for a kid you may rarely see, and who will grow up resenting you...and you will do it for EIGHTEEN YEARS (or more)..
you could get your heart broken, because sex is adult stuff and YOU are a KID.. (if I am supporting you, you ARE a kid)
sex "changes" EVERYTHING, and you can never go back to "just being friends" after you have been intimate with someone.
the person you have sex with brings all their otrher sex partners with them, so don't "assume" they are "clean"..
anyway, they all made it through their teens ...nothing "icky" and no babies..
They grew into respectful men...one married.. 31/ one 26 engaged and the other 27 and still looking :)
Good luck.. I don't envy you..
You can get through it :)

2. Draw whatever lines you want. |
|
They'll get crossed. Make sure they know about and have access to birth control as that's what you should be most worried about. As a teen I always respected the parents of b/fs and g/fs that let each other stay overnight. They weren't doing anything I wasn't. They just had a safe place to do it. BTW, I'm a 35 year old father of 2.
