Photoshop for free or something like it really

My daughter was asking about getting photoshop. Not really in the cards right now, but I was wondering is there something out there, that is free, that can give her some of the things that photoshop does so she can play around with pictures etc?

Alternately, there's GIMPShop:

This is actually GIMP with a redesigned interface to make it look and feel similar to Photoshop. It's based on a slightly older version of GIMP, but you might not notice. I would only recommend this if your daughter is already familiar with the Photoshop.

I personally prefer GIMP's interface, but I learned using GIMP rather than Photoshop.
