why the heck is my Ubuntu 10.04 desktop machine running apache?
I'm certainly not intending to run a server. Even if I did, I would have the world's lamest server, since I've only got dial-up internet access.

I just ran 'ps ax' and the results include the lines:

3896 ? S 0:00 /usr/sbin/apache2 -k start
3897 ? S 0:00 /usr/sbin/apache2 -k start
3898 ? S 0:00 /usr/sbin/apache2 -k start
3899 ? S 0:00 /usr/sbin/apache2 -k start
3900 ? S 0:00 /usr/sbin/apache2 -k start

:wtf:

Does Ubuntu, Lucid Lynx, now set up a web server by default? If so, this seems very odd, and very bad policy to me.

Anyone know what's going on?

1. I'm not seeing that
Just ran ps ax and I don't have that. Are you sure you downloaded the desktop ISO?

5. The Desktop version shouldn't come with Apache by default,
but you can follow the instructions here to find out how it got installed.

Apache is actually a dependency of several packages, so you might have installed something that brought it in automatically.
