Now you see it, now you don't: exciting new missing functionality in Lucid LiveCD partition editor |
|
The problem: This may affect you if you want to install Ubuntu 10.04 with RAID
Blah blah blah: I experienced it with a gigabyte mobo with sb850 chipset: the mobo has a "RAID BIOS" allowing several drive RAID configurations -- cheaper than buying a real RAID card. The problem is: after I set up the desired partitions manually, the LiveCD complains it can't properly format partitions on the RAID array and so I get stuck there. Apparently this results from an innovation in the Lucid LiveCD and did not plague earlier Ubuntu LiveCDs: citizens out in googleland offer various possibilities like installing kpartx before running the installer or using the alternate install CD
Simple bottom line: If you're partitioning manually, do the formatting with a functional version of gparted, (say) the gparted LiveCD; some people say an earlier Ubuntu LiveCD will work fine, too, if you've got it. If you run the Lucid LiveCD and it complains about formatting your RAID, back out and format the partitions on the RAID array with a gparted LiveCD, then go back to the LiveCD install and resume manually; you'll have to reset stuff like mount points but just don't format anything on the RAID array using the Lucid LiveCD
