1. It scares me, something always breaks. I'll put it off for months |
|
as I always do. All my equipment is old junk that someone else threw away. I'm actually using Lubuntu cause my junk can't handle the whole enchilada. Everything has been working fine for months and I will be reluctant to upgrade, but I will. Eventually.

First off I have Ubuntu 10.04 64 bit on 1TB Harddrive.
I put the DVD in and when it got to the "Install" screen, some reason I thought(my bad) hitting ENTER it would continue to boot LIVE....
WRONG!WRONG!WRONG!
It went into Install mood and started asking about where to install. I backed out as fast as I could but I was too late. This damn thing screwed my partition table. My old(?) system will not boot and not when I go into Gparted it doesn't recognize my partition...
Good news is I had my previous Ubuntu 64 bit on a harddrive on the shelf not plugged in. I'm glad I backup my Home folder via USB external Harddrive. but still ..
:rant off:

3. Being relatively new to the Linux world I like each of the new versions of Ubuntu so far |

From pushing the start button to up and running with my wireless connection ready takes 27.75 seconds. I'm using an old '01 dell dimension 4700 computer with a 3gig processor with mmx technology with 2 gig of ram. They've dropped fspot for shotwell which I've not tried as I don't do any photo editing. I just use image viewer to see my photos with. I installed 10.10 on here Sunday morning and this morning I had 4 updates all pertaining to upgrading to 2.6.35-22. It has no problem with my wireless connection, it found it right off and all I had to do was put in my password. 10.10 seems solid and ready to go to me.
I put AutoCad2000 on here using wine and that wasn't a problem. In fact I think Acad runs faster using Ubuntu and wine than it did when I ran it with XP in compatibility mode with winblows 98. AutoCad is the only serious thing I use my computer for so if it runs it I'm a happy camper.
