a good, anecdotal biography of George Washington? I'm reading Flexner's 4 volume life right now. It's a terrific read and Flexner does a great job of presenting the Public Washington. He also offers tantalizing glimpses of the private man, his likes and dislikes, his temperment and his domestic arrangements. I would like to read more along those lines. Something that goes beyond the standard banalities, yet is also well documented. I'm not interested in revisionist history based on modern sensibilities. I'm trying to understand the Man as a product of his own time. I would be grateful for your suggestions

1. Ellis is supposed to have one of the better current biographies |

But I've not read it. For some reason I've spent more time with Adams and Jefferson than with Washington.
