| Hi, folks. I have a mouse problem. |
|
I've been using a wireless lately, but it's acting up, especially when trying to cut/paste. It skips letters and words, just doesn't do what it's supposed to do. And yes, I've installed numerous sets of new batteries to no avail. So I tried to plug in my optical mouse; didn't work at all. Went and bought a new one and that doesn't work either. Tried different USB ports and that doesn't work either. Is there anything I can do to make this work? I've been told this is happening because my 'puter is old, but everything else is working, so why would a mouse be mucking up? Thanks for any advice.

| 1. Old shouldn't have anything to do with it. |
|
Are you plugging it directly to a USB port on the computer or through a hub? Do you have a PS/2 mouse that you can try on the PS/2 port? What OS?

| 2. Uh oh. I'm plugging it directly into a USB port on my tower; it's a |

PC, not a laptop.
I don't know what a PS/2 mouse is?
OS is Windows XP.
And I'm sadly pretty 'puter illiterate, as you may have guessed. :)

If you're plugging directly into the case that eliminates the hub problem. A PS/2 mouse is the old fashioned one with the round connector. Do you have a driver disk that came with your mouse. If so try reinstalling it. Do any other devices work when plugged into the same USB port.

| 4. No driver disk came with the mouse (though |
|
I don't know what that is, nothing came with it). There was reference to software available at logitech's website. Yes, the wireless mouse thingamabob works in the USB port, as did my camera. Both work in both ports I tried, just not the optical mouse.
Weird, huh.

| 5. Could be the mouse is dead. |
|
Have you rebooted the computer with the mouse plugged in before power on?

| 6. I've tried two mice, one I bought yesterday, so I can't imagine they're |
|
both dead. The first one worked for a few hours a few days ago, then stopped.
I plugged the new mouse in this a.m. before booting up; it didn't work. I can't plug it in prior to shutting down or doing anything because I need the mouse to shut down. Such a dilemma.
