Does ANYONE have any clue how to get rid of mcupdate.exe? The Windows media center update. |
|
The fucker takes over the computer. I can kill it from the task manager, but I can't delete the fucker, rename it, or move it. Any clues?

1. I think that's a McAfee Updater, related to its internet security suite |
|
If you don't need it, here is a link to instructions on how to prevent it from running at startup: http://www.ehow.com/how_5163620_remove-mcupdateexe.html

2. The McAfee updater uses the same name. This is clearly identified in the task manager... |
|
... as Media Center Store Updater. I've turned it off within Media Center but it still runs.
As for McAfee, I removed it a couple of years ago.

3. You should be able to stop Media Center from trying to download updates |
|
Try this:
Run the Windows Media Center application, then -
- click on "tasks" - click on "settings" - click on "general" - click on "automatic download options" - then uncheck "automatically download windows media center data"
The process shouldn't run anymore.
