upgrading from Windows XP to Windows 7. QUESTION |
|
i have windows xp professional 64-bit and i am wanting to upgrade to windows 7 ultimate 64-bit.
is it a compatible upgrade or not? i'm almost positive i'll have to do a clean install, but i don't want to purchase it if it won't work. i'm getting a sweet discount through my college but there is a no return policy.
trying not to screw this up and lose money.
any help is greatly appreciated!!

2. As long as you have the hardware requirements, no problem. |

To upgrade from XP you do have to do a clean install. So far all the applications I've tried on it worked, including my fractals program that was written for Win98. The only weird situation I had was that XP X64 didn't like WordPerfect 11 and 7 didn't like WordPerfect 12.
My little music player, TrayPlay-which is a 37K .exe and sits in the system tray has now worked on Win98, 2000, XP, XP X64, and on 7 Home Premium and Pro-both 32 and 64 bit versions.

3. One important thing. If your computer can run a 64 bit system, I see... |

...absolutely no problems. I've seen 7 work on computers that are 7 years old so I seriously doubt you'll have any problem.
