I need A Laptop as waterproof as a Toughbook, but much cheaper |
|
to use at the helm of my sailboat.
I'd love the Y-12 Panasonic toughbook but can't swing it right now.
Any rruggedizerd or semi ruggedized laptops (I have a secure mount, so a 6 ft drop test isn't needed, just has to be water resistant in case of a splash
Any suggestions

1. This may be worth a look |
|
I was interested when they first came out as a spare to cart around with me. It might be a bit low powered for your needs though. http://reviews.cnet.com/laptops/intel-classmate-pc-9/4505-3121_7-32909972.html#reviewPage1

Matter of fact my current computer is an Acer Aspire One. a $300 laptop that Mr Obama bought 5/6th of it for me with that SS $250 a couple years ago. Basically the same one You suggested with the Atom Ant processor
I'm going to be running very detailed marine maps and hooked to a GPS and expandable with 3 each video in/out and a 9 pin din for adding radar and such
No I need a fast Core Duo and a gamer's quality (nvidia g-force or better)
And most of all it has to be at least semi-rugged (water resistant) or fully rugged (waterproof and shock (6 ft drop test) resistant with a silicone shock mount on the HD
I'm describing a Panasonic Touighbook
I need something $1000-$2000, instead of $4000-$6000
Any other Ideas

3. Have you looked at getting a refurbished model? |
|
Not sure what all they have available but on the left side of this site they have an inventory tab: http://www.refurb.buytough.com/store/comersus_index.asp May be worth checking out.
