Issues with my text editor searching & replacing large amounts of text. |
|
I'm currently using Notepad++, version 5.8.6.
I have a client who changes her navigation every couple of weeks. She has many, many pages & I would like to just select all the text in the navigation section & replace it in all the HTML files in a certain directory. Notepad++ has this capability, except, it will only accept one line of text. I'm either using it wrong or it has a size limit on the search & replace strings.
I need a text editor that will allow me to search for & replace with very large amounts of text,and preferably, not have to open each file.

2. The problem with NotePad |
|
is that it doesn't allow you to do multiple lines. Word does. As long as the pattern is the same throughout the document it is possible.
To indicate the end of a line use ^P after each known line. Word will show the special characters used for tabs and paragraphs.
I've done may documents and large ones at that to format it the way needed. Especially those that need to be converted for database use.

And it sounds like you might know the answer to this:
What is the extension that WordPad uses on its documents? (I know that Notepad is "txt" but need to know Wordpad.)
Thanks in advance.

3. what kind of business do you run? |
|
It sounds like to me you need to use a scripting language like Python, or maybe perl. But I like python better.
What is the nature of your relationship with your clients? What kind of work are you doing?
