How can I single-click on desktop icons?

I used to be able to, but after a trip to the computer fixer I can't any more.
I'm running W-XP, Firefox.
I've tried to find something in display or whatever, but can't.

1. Double-click on 'My Computer'

Then click on 'Tools', select 'Folder Options' and choose 'Single click to open an item'.

Done
