Why would a google updater be on my computer.

And if it's legit why would Norton Internet Security deny it access. The following appears several times a day in the Norton History.

I have a gmail account but don't see why it would update.

I do have my web history paused for a while. In fact wondering if to delete it. Not browsing history, web history. Would that have anything to do with it?

1. Google desktop, Google search tool, Google toolbar...

These things get bundled in with everything lately, including Java and Adobe updates. Even if you uninstall them after you find them, they leave the Google Updater behind. NIS is a smarter (slightly) than average firewall, and knows that you probably didn't authorize that program to connect to the internet at will.

If it's actually the legitimate Google Updater, you'll see it in Add/Remove programs and be able to remove it. If it's not legit, you might want to update your Norton, do a full system scan, and then download MalwareBytes and do the same thing with that program.

Don't see it in add/remove, but have already run Malwarebytes, full scan, and Norton scans quite often....both say all is well.

I use Google News as my home page, but I uninstalled Google Earth. Maybe that left something behind.

Have intentionally downloaded the others, but as you say they slip in with other programs. I try to watch on my downloads, but miss sometimes.
