Why does my Firefox keep "not responding"? |
|
I may have too much open, 3 windows with about 45 tabs. Is that it?
I'm running Win7 on a Toshiba laptop with 4GB of RAM, so I don't think it's that. Just sometimes, it freezes for a while.
It's been this way through three patches of Firefox, at least.

I'm assuming you are running the stable version of Firefox too, correct ?
You might want to run a malware scan with two programs to eliminate that cause too.

2. It's been doing the same thing to me, too |
|
and I never have that much open. One window with maybe eight tabs tops, and I have 8GB of RAM now.
I was suspecting an old hard drive going bad until I read this. Now I think it may be a Firefox bug that only manifests under certain conditions.
Updating to the latest seems to have fixed it.... for now. That, however, may be because this is a fresh install of Win7, too.

3. Could be your profile's corrupt. |
|
Create a new profile, see if that solves your problem.
Or it could be your plugins & extensions. Experiment with disabling them, see if that helps.

4. I'm having the same issue - with both Firefox and Chrome |
|
When I close either, there is a process still running (either Chrome or Firefox, depending) that I can't kill from the task manager. Shutting down takes forever (trying to kill that same thing, I suppose, before shutdown) and it's the only way to get things going again.
I've disabled extensions, uninstalled and reinstalled... no difference.
All was fine until about a week ago.

It may be connected to flash. (Would explain why I'm having problems with both Firefox and Chrome).
I've uninstalled that, and we'll see if that makes a difference).
But why would it suddenly start causing issues?

and I thought that did it. But not so much.
I did notice, in both Chrome and Firefox, that simply trying open a site like Target or Radio Shack would immediately freeze everything. Can't figure why that is.

in case it's useful. MWB on a deep scan found a few instances of Adware.WidgiToolbar.
Might this have been causing the problems?

I closed about 15 or 20 tabs. Still have three windows with 10 or so tabs each (and it's kinda necessary until I figure out this new tab manager thingy that just got introduced).
It's only frozen once or twice since I pared down the tabs, so I think that was it.
