Laptop hinges design. Oh Boy. ??? |
|
As a tech, I'm amazed at the design of (Some) laptop hinges.
Example: Customer brought in a fairly new Toshiba wide-screen. One side had broken loose from the Body/Screen.
Looked at it. The swing arm/part was steel...about 1/8" X 2" Where the Hinge joined the screen part was (on top as you look at the screen) held on with a fairly hefty steel plate. The bottom of the steel arm hinge rested against the plastic cover (right under the screen)..held on with 2 little screws. (oh..Hell yeah, that will last!)
So one side is steel plate and the other is thin plastic that has to endure 40-60 pounds of pressure for years.
Ahhhh...anybody see something wrong with this (Fucking Brilliant) design.
I'm going to fix it by putting another steel plate UNDER the hinge.
Boy!...THAT took a lot of brain-power.
Makes you wonder who designs this stuff...Bozo the clown ??? :)

1. In my 30 yr old kitchen |

I have those big, folding corner doors with concealed hinges - which break all the time because the screws can't hold the weight, the doors get a lot of use, etc etc. I just take the door off and I still have a perfectly well functioning cupboard.
Shame that a laptop with the screen removed is nothing but a weighted, fucking keyboard.
I recall reading a potboiler novel in the mid 90s, may have been Crichton's 'Disclosure'. Laptops were around, but in nowhere near the numbers they are now. Exact same problem was described.
