Windows 7 printer driver problems.. |
|
I have a Dell Optiplex GX620 desktop I'm working on that sees the HP Deskjet 5550 printer installed to it but the printer won't do anything at all, I've uninstalled and reinstalled it several times now and still zip in the printing department. The printer was working fine on the XP box it was connected to but now it seems frozen on the Win 7 machine.
I've done several Google searches and tried a couple of remedies that others have outlined but nothing is working so far..
Any ideas?

1. Have you checked with HP for the latest drivers? |

2. HP says to use the Windows 7 driver included in the OS.. |
|
As far as I can tell they don't have a download for a Win 7 driver.
I tried getting the latest driver from Windows update and it didn't make any difference..

4. Their website lists 32 and 64 bit Windows 7 drivers for your printer |
|
Try downloading the one you need and installing it. I had that problem with a HP laser and 7. There was a topic on one of their support forms to use a different driver than the one that came with it and it worked fine after that.

Oops, don't know how I missed that..
Thanks..
ETA: OK, I know what happened.. You go through all the steps on the HP website and when it comes time to actually download the driver it tells you to use the one in Win 7 that there is no download available.

7. 32 bit, it's an older machine that someone had put Win 7 in and left the sticker on.. |
|
I got it with the HD wiped and used the Win 7 sticker number to install a fresh Win 7 32 on it..
FWIW, other than the printer and an older Epson scanner that doesn't have a Win 7 driver, Win 7 has worked beautifully on this machine.

5. I'd be thinking along the lines |
|
Of completely uninstalling the printer, then rebooting computer with printer attached and turned on. See if Win 7 detects it and tells you of new hardware. Then go through the wizard to install drivers.

8. I'm going to try that next time I get on that computer.. |
|
If that doesn't work I'm going to try this Microsoft printer troubleshooter I found. http://windows.microsoft.com/en-us/windows/help/printer-problems-in-windows
