( I need) Advice on buying a Chinchilla

( I need) Advice on buying a Chinchilla
I've decided to get a Chin but have a few questions. :)

I'm only going to get one....should it be a Male or Female?
Should I leave the Chin alone for a few days to allow him/her to "settle in" ?
Should I get a cage that has a place for the Chin to climb ?
I usually go to bed at 12:00 AM ....Can I put the chin in another room or will him/her get lonely?

Any other advice for a New Owner ???
