| Can cats and parrots get along? |
|
We have 3 beloved kittycats, and we're considering getting a parrot - Mr. DTBK had them while growing up in Pakistan, and he's been longing for one. I wouldn't want to get one and have the kitties get it, though. Any thoughts?

I would never leave them alone together unattended. My cats are terrified of my birds and for good reason. Way back (19.5 years ago)when we got our Red Lory "Crackers" from a rescue she got out when we weren't home one day. When we came home she had the two cats we had then cornered and every time they moved she would hiss at them and nip at them. I swear those two cats warned every other cat that came in the door. We got lucky that the bird or one of the cats wasn't injured or killed. We learned to lock Crackers cage whenever we left after that. When the birds are out and about all the cats hide upstairs now. It can be done but with caution and being very aware of where everyone is at.
Crackers has no fear and will not back down. She even has the dogs trained to leave the room when she wants "her man's" undivided attention. She is my husband's bird by her choice and does not like to share him with any of the other zoo crew members.
