Is it possible for cats to have reflux?

We have an old rescue cat that we adopted from the vet where my daughter worked. They apparently had not ever kept history on her so we don't know her past. She throws up all of the time.

1. Some cats just puke a lot,

probably so you can step in it with your bare feet and they can laugh at you. But you might want to have her checked out in case she has some problem.

2. If there is nothing wrong with her, then check out Lorien's

excellent thread on "know what you are feeding your cat". The commercial brands have lots of additives in their ingredients that can cause your cat digestive distress. One of my rescues was a "puker" until I changed her food according to the suggestions in that thread. Now she never throws up and no longer seems to get hairballs.

3. Definatly get it checked out.

If the cat has kidney problems, it causes a "reflux" like action as a symptom, apparently, uric acid will seep back and can be present in the saliva and/or tear ducts.
They do ocasionally get normal reflux if they get into spicy people food or occasionally dairy; the vet said half an OTC Pepcid AC should take care of that.

Moggy loooves licking out the kidlet's morning sugary cereal bowl since she tends to leave it with about half a cup of "used" milk sitting where she ate, and this causes a nasty hork if he does this too soon after eating as well as the runs - and this can go on for an entire day. The Pepcid helps end the cycle within a half hour.

But again, see your vet, it could be something internal.

5. One Pukes, the Other Doesn't

Gracie never pukes, but Otis pukes at least once a week. I've gotten so used to it that I just matter-of-factly clean up after him. The two cats eat the same food, and they're both shorthairs. I've never been able to figure out why one pukes, the other doesn't.

Otis has picked up some bad habits from Gracie. He never used to climb all over everything, knocking things down from shelves. Since he saw her doing it, he's doing it himself so that I've had to cat-proof the house. However, Gracie hasn't picked up puking yet, knock on wood.

6. Our cat used to ALWAYS puke after eating

It turns out he has IBS. He does great on a diet of Evo, Innova, and Tiki Cat canned food. He also hunts for food, and that doesn't bother his tummy.
