I need some help/advice regarding my cat.

Or maybe I just need some reassurance. Anyway, my 13 year old cat, Squeakers, peed on my bed about 90 minutes ago. That's very unusual for her, but I thought it was just an accident. I stripped the sheets and threw them in the wash. When I came back, she was in the litter box.

After she left the litter box, she went to lay underneath the dresser. I noticed she was licking her butt. Upon closer inspection, I noticed that she had droplets of urine coming out. There's no blood, and she doesn't seem to be in pain. She's been acting fine all day. But to be on the safe side, I called the vet and scheduled an appointment for tomorrow afternoon. The front desk person says it sounds like a UTI, but not necessarily a blockage.

So, now I've got myself good and freaked out. My question is, can I wait until tomorrow to take her to the vet, or should I take her to the emergency vet tonight? I'd rather wait until tomorrow so I can take her to my usual vet. But if she needs to go tonight, I'll take her tonight.

So, any opinions? Thank you all in advance.

1. Since she doesn't seem to be in pain

I think you're safe until tomorrow. I would put her in a bathroom with lots of towels and a clean litter box so that she doesn't make a mess all over the house.

Could you call back and ask to speak to the vet? Or call the emergency vet and run the situation by them?

I've never had a cat with this issue, but it does seem like a UTI.

2. I called back and got one of the vet techs.

She assured me that it didn't seem to be a dire emergency. But she told me to monitor Squeakers just in case anything changes. She's sleeping at the moment, so I'm definitely more freaked out than she is.

3. Check and see if she is indeed peeing

in her box. Cats with UTIs will go in and out of box, strain to pee -- about the size of a dime. When they are blocked, they get delirious and usually will howl or puke. I had that happen to my older cat a couple of times. He projectile vomited on my daughter on the way to the emergency clinic. He was completely blocked.

You have to use your own judgment, how long has she been acting strange? If just since today I would say you are OK waiting until tomorrow, but trust your instincts. Disclaimer: I am not a vet.

(If she were a he, I'd say it might be more urgent, males block alot easier than the females because their urethras are smaller. :cry: )

My cat Eli, had a huge diarrhea explosion on my bed once. I tossed the comforter - I just couldn't imagine it ever being clean again, no matter how many times I ran it through the washing machine. :(

7. The visit went well.

She has a UTI and is slightly dehydrated. The vet ran a couple of additional tests just to be on the safe side, but everything seems to be ok.

I totally understand about the comforter. I had a cat give birth between my sheets one time. It was not a pretty sight. I didn't even bother trying to wash them. Thankfully, none of my cats have had diarrhea on my bed yet, but I'm sure it's on one of their to-do lists.

6. She's doing well.

She has a UTI and is slightly dehydrated. They gave her fluids and antibiotics. The vet was concerned because her kidneys seem small, so she ordered some bloodwork. The vet said she just wants to rule out any serious issues.

But Squeakers seems to be acting normal again. Although I think she's still kind of mad at me for having the nerve to cage her and take her to the vet. Thanks for asking about her.

8. Being mad is actually good - she couldn't be mad if she wasn't feeling better!

Her kidneys are probably just reacting to the infection, but it's good that your vet is being thorough. It's such a worry when our little ones are sick - I'm glad she's doing better!! Thanks for taking the time for an update.
