| Damn you, Swiffer Mop (commercials) |
|
The commercials where the mop sends flowers and candy and generally tries to woo back the former user from her new love affair with Swiffer.
The doorbell is identical to ours in our house.
The commercial goes on and Sparkly yells "Nooooooo!"
But its too late. Off goes 150 lbs of dogs, like a pack, toward the imagined door bell ringer.
And then they bark ..... and bark ..... and bark.
If we go up there, they'll calm right down. But if we don't, they'll keep on barking for maybe 10 minutes.
Our dilemma is that we don't want to discourage their protectiveness. But man oh man, they can be annoying. I suppose this will all stop when Swiffer gets a new commercial.

| 1. We don't have a doorbell but there was a car commercial |
|
with some interesting music that would always get Corky, the poodle mix, going. I started muting the TV whenever the commercial came on. None of the other four dogs seems to notice the TV. Corky also gets very excited if I'm alone and I talk to myself or cheer or groan while watching sports. He thinks I must be talking to another human so he starts barking and looking towards the doors.

| 2. I used to have a dog that howled (or sang) when |
|
the McNeil Lehrer News Hour ditty came on (way back when it was still worth watching.) She also howled at a Morning Edition ditty (way back when it still had some value.) After a bit, the miniature poodle chimed in. I miss the two dogs; the last one went last January. I would love to hear them howl right now. The three of us had 10 great years together.

| 3. I had two dogs that would go beserk whenever there was a doorbell ringing on TV |
|
They ran to the door and just stood there, barking their heads off.
I tried so hard to explain to them that it was only the TV...but they just never really got it...

| 5. The swiffer solution is toxic until it dries |
|
An option for those with swiffer wetjets is to use a mild non-toxic cleaner in place of theirs (or homemade, recipes abound on the internet for safe, green, non-toxic cleansing solution) in the dispenser rather than Swiffer's goop. If it's the wet pads, use cheap shop towels or thin cloth baby diapers soaked in the same solution, can even keep in the same container ready to go after it's thoroughly rinsed. They are thin enough that the little holders in the swiffer will hold them, and you can wash and reuse them, really decreasing your garbage output.
