Hi! My friend gave me some mint plants from her garden. I am

wondering if it is safe for my cats to eat them? Are they the same as catmint? Thanks.

1. They aren't poisonous

but your cats won't eat them. They are quite a useful plant. They deter ants from around where you plant them. However, my advise is to plant them in pots. I made the mistake of putting them in my garden and they took over. Will have to pull them out soon.

3. Mint is great!

You can walk by and pop a leaf in your mouth to chew on..instant fresh breath! Great for iced tea and mint juleps! Do keep in pots though...spreads like crazy!

5. Some cats react to about any strong scent...

I've had a couple who just LOVE fresh dryer sheets...they'll roll, rub and cuddle them and then fall asleep on them.
Or maybe a shirt that I've worn while wearing cologne...they'll cuddle that like a teddy-bear/blanket/best buddy. Don't know if the fact that it was lavender cologne had anything to do with it...

Had one cat- Kaminari (Spring Thunderstorm) who did this.
One time she got so excited by a visitor's combination of lotion and perfume it was embarrassing...
she jumped in her lap, was rubbing against her chest, trying to roll in her lap, and finally nipped her.
Kami wasn't a 'bite-y' cat, so I figured she'd just gotten over-stimulated.

I put her on the carpet with some catnip to max out her olfactory receptors.
It worked...she had her usual 'nip-trip and then fell asleep.
Don't know if she woke up with a headache or not...


Still miss that little black cat...she was my supervisor, social director, meat inspector, border patrol, etc.....
