So, I took Oliver to the woods and he brought me a dead fish head. I made him drop it. The next day we went back - he found another one and this time he rolled on top of it. I kept wondering what is that terrible smell and then I got him in the car. Rotten fish.
:puke:
So I remembered the remedy from long ago- dilute listerine 1:10 and spray the affected parts. This isn't as good as a bath, of course, but it takes away the stench if you're just about to leave for work. Poor Ollie. He was cringing when I sprayed him, like I was making him smell disgusting... cool mint listerine.

1. Thanks for the listerine tip

and  for dealing with dead fish head stench. There isn't much worse, imo. Fortunately, my two dogs aren't into rolling around in stuff, but my previous dogs were. What a mess.

2. MY German Shepherd's breeder told me about that a while back.

It is sort of a quick bath. She said that people who show dogs do that just before taking their dog into the ring. They spray their dog with the Listerine/Water mix, towel dry the dogs, and then brush them. It cleans them and makes them smell great...and it helps to avoid skin irritations.
PS I am so sorry that he did eventually roll in it. I guess his instincts just got the better of him...

3. Ollie TOTALLY FREAKED OUT when I gave him a bath today.

He smelled awful so I finally decided to put him in the bathtub. He's jumped in the lake numerous times. The other night when I was taking a bubble bath he came up to the side of the tub and poked his nose in- I thought he was going to join me! So I wasn't expecting him to react like a cat when I got him in the tub- he fought me and clawed at me, although I ultimately got it done. When he was rinsed I just stopped fighting him and he took off.
When all was said and done, he still stinks a little. Johnsons Baby Shampoo isn't strong enough for dead fish.
