I had to say goodbye to Lily

When I came home from work on Christmas Eve she was very sick suddenly. I tried to keep her warm and comfortable as she didn't seem to be in pain and the day after Christmas I took her to the vet. Her vitals were failing. The vet said that she was dying based on her body temperature. So I had her put down as I know she was failing and not able to walk. It was quite sudden as she had been a healthy elderly cat just days before.

How I will miss my sweet girl. Half my adult life she has been the center of my heart. I'm thankful that my boyfriend Keith came over and was very consoling and since she had been very fond of him, he was very sweet towards her as well. I will miss my sweet abby girl.

I know it is like losing a child. I almost feel as if I know her too, having seen so many wonderful pics of her. She was a real sweetie.
There really are no words that can assuage the ache, but you did the right thing. Her life ended without a long, drawn out illness. You gave her the final act of a loving caretaker by not prolonging any suffering, and letting her go with dignity and surrounded by love.

As far as I have experienced, only time and tears help the sadness retreat. I know she will always be with you, in that Lily shaped space in your heart. And have no doubt that a part of her will always be nearby, watching over you.
