Mint - enlarged spleen

brought the greyhounds to the vet last night for booster shots/yearly checkup stuff (This is a new vet, we switched vets a few months ago - so it's her first visit with this practice)

Mint, our 5-6yr old greyhound has a "possible" enlarged spleen. We have to bring her back in two weeks - Vet said it could be nothing - but wants to palapated it again.

I've "googled" enlarged spleens in dogs, seems to be serious symptom of underlying problems from twisted bowels to cancer.

Mint is eating, peeing, pooping, playing fine. No change in her activity level. Temperature, heart, lungs etc all checked out fine last night.

so - how nervous should I be about this?

1. I don't have any experience with this but please try not to

worry and keep us posted. A big :hug: for you and Mint. It could be a minor infection causing the enlargement - it could be nothing. Maybe Mint was born with a slightly larger spleen :shrug:. At any rate, if her eating, peeing and pooping and energy levels are fine, the enlarged spleen may not be a symptom of something serious, imo.

2. I tend to agree with borntohike...but pls keep us updated.

I know that humans can have their spleen removed. It is not fatal in and of itself.

3. If the next check up isn't positive, i wouldn't hesitate to get a second opinion.

Went through a bone cancer scare with one of our borzois several months ago. X ray didn't look good,
but the vet showed it to three other vets and they agreed that it probably was just an anomaly. So far she's
not showing any symptoms. Have had seven sighthounds and so far no spleen problems. Good luck with
your Mint. I love greyhounds, too. z
