Since I follow the Japanese custom of not wearing shoes in the apartment, Kidley has recently figured out that my putting on shoes means that I'm going to leave.
Last week he began to walk through the arc formed by arms as I lean over to tie my shoes.
This morning he was even faster. He saw me sit down with the shoes and immediately came and lay down across my feet.
OK, Kidley, you've made your opinion known.. .

| 1. Leave your shoes outside the door. That way he won't see you put them on. |
|
The other solution is simply that you never leave home. That's what he wants, isn't it? And you must obey your feline overlord.

| 2. Fortunately, he's still lighter than I am, so it's a simple matter |

to get him off my feet.
As for the overlord part, I now know why the Egyptians worshipped cats: The cats demanded it.

I was a nurse and there was no way I was going to track gawd knows what from the hospital through the house. I kicked off the nursing shoes on a washable throw rug just inside the door and put on the rubber clogs I'd worn the night before until I'd gotten to the point of putting on my nursing shoes and leaving the house.
In other words, I had indoor shoes and outdoor shoes. The clogs never touched that rug and the shoes never touched the floor. Every once in a while I'd launder both rug and shoes together when I had enough days off in a row to allow the shoes to dry.
My cats never seemed to pick up on the fact that I was changing shoes before I left.

| 4. They are such smart little critters, aren't they? |

You have a very astute little guy who thinks that you should ALWAYS be home with him. That is too cute (and, sweet)!

I am enjoying it, actually. Working with some pretty nice people.
Haven't been visiting this group much, and, I am finding that I miss it. There is a shared love of animals here that is so comforting.
Hope all is well with you!
