Kitteh exercise wheel.
Edited on Wed Jun-24-09 07:02 AM by livvy
This is great. I wonder if the poster made it or bought it. Very cool. I think I'd like to see a screen on the spokes as a safety element. Hate to have a kitteh stick its head in there...ouch!

on edit: Ahhh...in this version you can see a plastic sheet that surrounds the spokes...smart!

1. I can't imagine my boys using it
Those cats are bengals. My boys are typical housecats. I've never seen them run very far. At the most they kind of waddle.

2. They are beautiful cats.
I'm with you on the waddle action. My guy's idea of a serious play period is lying on his side or sitting on his haunches batting at the "prey". I can't remember the last time he ran anywhere...course he is 12.

I visited the website that the wheel came from...gorgeous cats. They seem to be serious breeders for show and companion animals. $1200 for a kitten and they have retired studs and "studettes" for adoption.

3. My cat runs.
He's a Tuxedo, but has that slender body build. He doesn't have that freedom now that he's been house confined.

4. I think my guys would like something like that...
All of them are products of several generations of 'mom got out when she was wailing and there was this (or these) traveling saleskitty...', but there's a good bit of Oriental in the mix.
I kinda select for this as well as black coat color; think it makes for a smarter and more social cat...and they haven't let me down yet.

This means they're lively and HATE IT when the weather keeps them indoors. You can only chase brudder around the house so far (at 4 AM when it's time for the Rocket Cat Energy Discharge) but with a wheel you can run and run and run....

5. LOL!
I posted on someone's thread who has decided to keep her kitties inside that we had made a successful transition from outdoor 'traveling saleskitty' to indoor, since we moved to a new location that isn't roaming friendly.

However, my househost has been out of town for a week and a half, and I've been responsible for taking his doggies out. So, after five months, Boog's interest in going out has been renewed (wailing). I've taken him out a few times when the dogs go out. He doesn't make a straight run for the fence any more. I prop the door open, and when the big dogs next door start barking, he runs for the house. He just pokes around in the bushes, sniffs everything and eats some grass. I've also found I can turn the water hose on, just turn it on, and he runs inside. I do stay out there the entire time. Mid day it is so hot, and he's forgotten what that's like, so isn't too keen to stay out at that time. He wants to go out more than they do, so we are still adjusting to his new PARTIAL freedom. If he had something like the wheel, it might help.

7. you can walk a cat on a long, light leash--
the only problem is that you have to just follow them around where they want to go. I do that with one of my cats when I have time--let her sniff and poke around the yard. If she was off leash she'd take off into the next yard. When I've had enough, I pick her up and bring her in.
